PEONY IN BLACK AND WHITE
Peony in Black and White presents the peony through a restrained palette of Peach Black and white, allowing form, structure, light, and shadow to become the focus. The enlarged flower fills the composition, revealing the intricate layering of its petals and the delicate detail of its central stamens.
The tonal relationship between Peach Black, greys, and white transforms the familiar flower into a study of contrast, rhythm, and organic architecture. Deep tonal passages define the contours and overlapping petals, while lighter areas create depth and draw the eye toward the luminous centre.
By removing natural colour, JCHADIMA invites the viewer to experience the peony beyond its literal appearance—as an arrangement of shape, line, texture, light, and tonal movement.
The work also establishes the visual foundation for Peony in Acid, where the same floral structure is transformed into an intense and vibrant colour composition.
