“The artist’s book is a living entity. Not merely because it evokes the living, but because it shares its impulse: it grows, unfolds, undergoes transformation in accordance with the gestures that shape it.
Each page constitutes a sensitive membrane, each fold an articulation between the visible and the invisible, each opening a potential site of encounter.
This workshop offers an introduction to this singular object at the crossroads of image, material and narrative. Over the course of three hours, participants are invited to explore and experiment the book as an original matrix, an organism in the becoming. A succession of breaths in which every trace converses with the next, giving rise to a unique form.
From humble materials – gathered, preserved, or simply encountered in the course of daily life participants are encouraged to observe, touch, assemble, fold, and bind. Gradually, a form emerges.
Like a presence taking shape at its own rhythm.
The book thus ceases to be solely something one constructs. It becomes what arises from the encounter between an intention, a presence, and the sensitive world. A work that continues to live both in the hands that shape it and in the gaze that contemplates it.”
