Les falaises d'Etretat, sujet cher aux impressionnistes, ont été rendues célèbres dans la littérature par Maurice Leblanc, qui a fait de la fameuse "Aiguille Creuse" le lieu secret où serait caché le trésor des rois de France...
Ce tableau rend hommage à ce lieu hors du commun, en utilisant des matériaux bruts (tissus effrangés, tissages contrastants), en accentuant le jeu des lumières d'un ciel d'orage sur les anfractuosités de la falaise.
The cliffs of Etretat (Normandy, France), beloved subject of the impressionists, were made famous in the literature by Maurice LeBlanc. In the novel "Aiguille Creuse", (which literally means the hollow needle) he transformed the most famous cliff of Etretat into a secret place where the treasure of the kings of France would be hidden...
This painting pays tribute to this extraordinary place, using raw materials ( fabrics with frayed edges, contrasting weavings, ...), accentuating the play of lights of a stormy sky over the cliff's crevices.
